Movement No. 101 converts the oscillating motion of a suspended slotted bar into rectilinear motion of a horizontal bar. A slotted bar is hung from a fixed pivot at the top, allowing it to swing like a pendulum. A pin or stud on the horizontal bar passes through the slot in the swinging bar. As the slotted bar vibrates from side to side, it pushes the horizontal bar back and forth along a straight path. Because the slotted bar is suspended from above and can pivot freely, the pin in the slot traces an arc, but the horizontal bar — constrained by its guides — extracts only the horizontal component of that motion, resulting in smooth rectilinear output. This mechanism offers a simple and compact way to convert oscillating motion into guided linear motion without a complex linkage.

101. Rectilinear motion of horizontal bar, by means of vibrating slotted bar hung from the top.
