Movement No. 97 is a variation of Movement No. 96, featuring a grooved heart-shaped cam. Like the standard heart-cam, this mechanism converts continuous rotary motion into perfectly uniform reciprocating rectilinear motion. The key difference is that instead of a follower rod simply resting against the outer surface of the cam, the follower pin is constrained within a groove cut into the face of the heart-shaped cam disk. This groove guides the follower positively in both directions — pushing it outward on one half of the rotation and pulling it back inward on the other — eliminating the need for a return spring and ensuring precise, positive control of the follower at all times. This makes the grooved heart-cam especially reliable for high-speed or heavy-duty applications in textile machinery, winding equipment, and precision feed mechanisms.

97. This is a heart-cam, similar to 96, except that it is grooved.
